SMS GatewaysSMS Gateways are types of software that enable the user to send and receive SMS messages throughout the mobile network. They also help to create connection between different SMS Centers in order not to interrupt SMS flow. SMS Gateways are tools to increase and explore the opportunities in SMS technology. They extend the ways of SMS sending and raise the capacity of SMS transferring. SMS Gateways offer connection to the mobile network over the Internet or directly through a wireless modem. In both cases a computer is needed where an SMS Gateway is installed. Besides connections various interfaces are available for the corporate office users, IT systems and corporate applications to send and receive SMS messages manually or automatically. SMS Gateways provide two ways of SMS sending according to the connection type the user chooses. GSM SMS sending can be achieved through wireless connection. In this case a GPRS/GSM modem or mobile phone should be purchased with a SIM card, as well as a PC to phone data cable (e.g.: InfraRed, USB, RS232 data cable or Bluetooth) and the SMS Gateway software the user wants to use. After connecting the modem or phone to the PC with the data cable, inserting the SIM card into the device and installing the SMS Gateway to the computer, SMS messaging can be started. The messages are transmitted through the SMS Gateway – mobile device - SMSC - recipient's device path. When an SMS message is received the SIM card stores it and notifies the SMS Gateway, which reads the message and deletes it from the memory cell to make room for the next incoming SMS. SMS Gateways are also able to maintain communication with IP SMS messages. Here, Internet connection is needed but no modem, SIM card or data cable. Instead, users have to connect a mobile network operator or an independent SMS service provider. Users will be given an IP address, a port number, a username and a password. They have to customize their SMS Gateway according to them. During IP SMS sending or receiving the SMS Gateway connects directly to SMSC thus SMS transmission becomes faster than by using wireless connection. As opposed to GSM SMS (6 SMS per minute), Internet connection makes it possible to send 500 SMS per second with the help of SMS Gateways. SMS Gateways therefore, provide beneficial solutions for Mobile network operators, SMS content providers, SMS aggregators, Corporate users and Software developers to build up and maintain connections. The software is suitable for sending mass SMS messages as well as bulk or group messages. SMS Gateways are responsible for handling thousands of SMS messages, so they are able to use the store and forward option. With SMS Gateways the various interest groups can send news, adverts, sales, discounts and other kinds of information to their recipients. They become able to keep in touch with thousands of people for highly fair prices. Both GSM SMS sending and IP SMS sending have costs. The price of the former includes the cost of the SIM card, the subscription plan and the SMS Gateway. The latter contains the price of the SMS Gateway and the contract to have access to the IP address. But using SMS Gateways are still very cost effective as opposed to other means of communication. They provide immediate contact, efficient information flow with high speed to users who do not want to waste time and money. To get more information, please visit the following websites: |
